In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, USC Arcadia Hospital is taking all prudent precautions against the spread of the virus. BABY CARE AND SOOTHING TECHNIQUES
During this course, expectant parents will explore the “Understanding
Your Newborn” guidebook. You will also be provided with access to
an informative
mobile app that will be a useful resource for new parents during the first months
after the baby arrives. Topics covered include newborn characteristics
and behavior, sleep and feeding patterns, diapering and bathing demonstrations,
comforting techniques, baby safety, when to call the doctor, and transitioning
to your new role as a parent.

BREASTFEEDING
During this course, you will explore the “Understanding Breastfeeding”
guidebook. Also, you will be provided with access to an informative
mobile app that will keep important information at your fingertips before and during
your breastfeeding journey. A lactation specialist will provide you with
information about the benefits of breastfeeding, techniques for positioning
your infant, how-to ensure nutritive latch, healthy milk production, pumping
success, storing of human milk, as well as prevention and relief of common
problems. Your support person is encouraged to attend class with you.

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP (Mommy & Baby Bistro)

PREPARED CHILDBIRTH
This course is essential for all first-time expectant parents, as it will help to prepare you and your partner for labor and delivery. Students receive an “Understanding Birth” guidebook which explores the topics of the signs of labor, when to go to the hospital, breathing techniques, relaxation and massage, common medical procedures, including details about epidural and cesarean procedures, the role of the labor support person, and insight into the hospital and postpartum experience for both mother and baby. Additionally, you will be given access to an App that will keep all of this information at your fingertips as you prepare for and experience the birth of your baby.
