John Parsons, AuD, is a clinical audiologist with Keck Medicine of USC who specializes in diagnosing and treating patients with hearing loss and tinnitus, with a special focus on introducing them to technology and strategies that will empower their ability to communicate effectively and minimize auditory frustration.
Dr. Parsons understands that everyone responds to hearing loss and rehabilitation differently. For this reason, he is dedicated to approaching each patient with individualized care, tailoring his approach specifically to each patient’s goals, lifestyle and abilities.
After earning his Doctor of Audiology degree from a joint program of San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Parsons completed his externship at the USC Caruso Family Center for Childhood Communication, part of the USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Keck Medicine of USC.
Dr. Parsons currently serves as a clinical assistant professor and as co-division chief of audiology for the USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. His research interests include approaches to reduce the impact of tinnitus on daily life, aural pressure and how to more effectively diagnose middle ear problems. Dr. Parsons has also investigated how the use of cochlear implants may improve quality of life and speech understanding, as well as the relationship between hearing loss and music perception.
When not treating patients, he enjoys making hot sauce using peppers from his garden and visiting plant nurseries with his wife, son and dog.
