Methodist Hospital is the Only Hospital in LA County To Receive Medicare’s Prestigious 5-Star Rating For Overall Hospital Quality
Arcadia, California – (September 20, 2016) – Methodist Hospital of Southern California received a tremendous honor recently when the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded the hospital with its five-star rating for providing high quality, safe, effective care to patients. Methodist Hospital is the only hospital in Los Angeles County to receive this prestigious recognition.
Nationwide, Medicare recognized 102 hospitals with its 5-star rating, placing Methodist Hospital among the top 2% of 4,599 hospitals that were rated across the country. Medicare’s overall star rating summarizes up to 64 quality measures reflecting common conditions that hospitals treat, such as heart attacks or pneumonia. The overall rating shows how well a hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the U.S.
“We are truly honored to be the only hospital in Los Angeles County to receive this prestigious five-star rating from Medicare,” said Dan Ausman, President and CEO at Methodist Hospital. “We are extremely proud of our doctors, nurses, and staff for helping Methodist Hospital earn this extraordinary recognition for providing excellent patient care.”
Medicare’s Overall Hospital Star Ratings range from one to five stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on available quality measures. The most common overall rating is three stars. The ratings were created in collaboration with organizations representing consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, and other federal agencies. The data initiative uses a variety of tools to help stimulate improvements in the quality of care delivered by hospitals. According to Medicare, the intent of the project is to help improve hospitals’ quality of care by distributing objective, easy to understand data on hospital performance and quality.
