Arcadia, California – (January 4, 2018) – Methodist Hospital
of Southern California once again received a tremendous honor when Medicare
awarded the hospital its highest rating – five stars – for
overall hospital quality, placing Methodist Hospital among the top 8%
of more than 4,000 hospitals nationally.
Methodist Hospital is one of only six hospitals in Los Angeles County and
among 24 statewide to be recognized with Medicare’s most recent
five-star quality rating released in late December 2017. Most notably,
Methodist Hospital has always received a five-star rating across three
consecutive updates since Medicare began publishing its acute care hospital
ratings in July 2016.
Medicare’s five-star ratings summarize more than 50 quality measures
reflecting common conditions that hospitals treat, such as heart attack
and pneumonia. The overall rating shows how well a hospital performed,
on average, compared to other hospitals in the U.S. The overall rating
ranges from one to five stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed
on available quality measures. The most common overall rating is 3 stars.
“We are again truly honored and extremely proud of our doctors, nurses,
and staff for helping Methodist Hospital earn this extraordinary recognition
for providing excellent patient care,” said Dan Ausman, President
and CEO at Methodist Hospital. “The dedication of our entire hospital
team exemplifies our commitment to patients, and drives all of our success
