Tapping Into My Strengths, I will Conquer This
Create to Heal Goal: $5,000
Once diagnosed with cancer, a patient’s progress is their own, unique
journey. Patients undergoing treatment can find understanding with others
who are experiencing or have experienced cancer themselves. The Methodist
Hospital Cancer Resource and Positive Appearance Center empowers cancer
patients wherever they are in their journey.
The Center takes another step with their patients by offering classes designed
by Patricia Varga, author of Create To Heal: A Pathway to Insight, A Journey
to Peace. In her book, Patricia explains how creativity gets us out of
our heads and into our hearts where healing begins. As a result, patients
tap into their own creativity attaining greater strength and peace as
they continue treatment or through recovery.
Through the Create To Heal five principles of meditation/guided imagery,
motion, music, art and inspirational messaging, a cancer patient “tunes
into their feelings and emotions to help them communicate in meaningful,
positive ways.” These principles offer “a mind-body intervention
that helps to break the stress and pain cycle.” Ultimately, the
patient transfers from focusing on the myriad of thoughts in their head
to being mindful of the expressions of their heart where healing begins.
With your contribution today, you can help the Methodist Hospital Cancer
Resource and Positive Appearance Center to host a “train the trainer”
session with author Patricia Varga as the instructor. Workbooks for patients
are included in the session. With your support, you can help a family
member, a work colleague or a dear friend reinvigorate their creative
self and feel whole again.
