BACKGROUND: It all began at an annual joint leadership retreat in February 2007 when Dr. Bashir Ahmad challenged Dr. Greg Withers to a friendly game of golf. The match sparked so much excitement that many onlookers were placing pledges on their prediction of the winner. From just one game, the stakes climbed to a surprising $5,000 that would be generously donated to emergency services at Methodist Hospital. Dr. Ahmad was proclaimed victor of the match and was quick to challenge other fellow physicians. Since then, many title champions have put their belt on the line for not only fun but a worthy cause. The tournament has grown from a one time golf competition between two doctors to a community event where all are welcome to participate for the cause of building community awareness about the growing ER crisis facing many California hospitals. The most recent golf tournament was between Dr. Withers and Mr. Wuo. John Wuo is now the proud golf challenge champion and is looking forward to the receipt of the title belt.
